Hi,
if this is an 02 -08 model, according to the Haynes almost useful manual, it's sealed for life and doesn't need changing.
Is it leaking, playing up etc, why do you want to change it ?
Bob.

Hi Bob thanks for the information it's a 2004 automatic 1.6 16 valve Hatch 5 door ,I really should get hold of this book I might search for one on eBay, The problem is I can hear a winding sort of a noise when the gears are being changed in the automatic mode or in the manual mode then in 4th Gear there's Just a high pitch noise continuously not loud but never the less I can still hear it. A quite a few people ask me why do I keep this old Renault my answer to them compared to some newer cars this Renault is a better and more comfortable drive :D My next thought is how do I check the automatic oil level :?

Hi,
remove battery and tray for filler plug.
The level plug is incorporated in the drain plug.
It'll be the inner smaller hexagonal nut, it's a tube that goes vertically into the box.
Have the gearbox warm if you want to do this and warm the fluid going in.
When it starts coming out, let it out till it stops.
Drive the car till hot then loosen and let excess out.

Have to say that from our experience of modern electronically controlled automatics ( ours was the vw dsg nightmare )
if it works well, leave it alone.
Good luck
Bob.

Hi
Bob like you say if it works well, leave it alone. I think that's just what I'm going to do
can't be that much wrong with the gearbox. I get around 38-41 mpg average,
Very much appreciate your help and advice
Regards
Alan
