PCV for my Renault Scenic 2004 1.9 dci

Postby Luke99 » Thu Mar 15, 2018 11:27 am

Hi,

Can anyone identify these images as my PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation value for my Renault Scenic? (Are Scenics and Meganes the same vehicle?)

When I blow into it, it blows both ways. Also, when I pass water thru it, it goes both ways. As a vacuum value, isn't it supposed to just flow one way?

Do I need to buy a new one?

Thanks! https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/QqwAAOSwhiZafb8O/s-l1600.jpg

By the way, how do I insert a pic I took with my iphone of the PCV?

Hi,
yes that's the breather vent valve and engines are basically the same.
if you can blow through it then it's not blocked.
l don't think it's only one way, it just helps prevent spatters of oil from being blown out.
As an engine wears, there will be a little oil blown by the crankcase pressure to be expected.
If it's excessive, you could try a new part, but it's indicative of engine wear.
When buying a diesel car, l always remove the oil filler cap while it's running to see if it's breathing heavily or if it's good,
You don't want visible smoke coming out of there.
Bob.
