Hey guy
I have a 2006 megane mk 2 1.6 petrol. I have an oil leak on the right hand side of the engine (closest to the battery).
Can anyone tell me where it is actually coming from to help me decide on what the fix maybe. I have attached a couple links just incase one doesnt work. Any help woub be appreciated.
thank you

Hi
Thermostat housing may be the culprit,
Is there any sign of oil in the coolant?

Hello Noelo thank you for getting back to me.
This is the problem my car dI'd not have any antifreeze in the overflow tank. So there wasn't any signs. The issue I have is that I bought this from an independant dealer and dint think it has been maintained well.
But the car has not been overheating, or white smoke out of exhaust - as initially was think blown head but I just don't feel it is that.
Why would the thermostat be a potential issue for an oil leak doesn't that just let coolant though the engine at operat9ng temperasure.
Thanks again

Re: Engine Oil Leak - Where is it coming from?
Hi,
I am not fully conversant with the petrol engine, but if you thoroughly clean it off then regularly look at it, you should see where it's coming from.
Remember that tiny spatters of oil can move upwards as well as downwards when car is moving.
If there are no drips underneath and the oil isn't going down, it could be a very slow leak not unusual on older cars.
Any bad leaks will be picked up in an MOT test.
Bob.

Hi everson38
The thermostat housing is made of plastic
Both coolant and oil pass through separate
Channels in this housing, the plastic housing
May have distorted slightly if the engine overheated, perhaps this may be the source
Of oil leak. I had an oil leak some time ago
It was the thermostat housing in my case
