Need replacement driveshafts for Megane 1.5DCi Mk2 2005- Number matching problem?

Postby nocturnal » Fri Feb 02, 2018 8:29 pm

Hi,

I need replacement driveshafts. Ebay has lots of spares but the numbers don't match the nearside passenger driveshaft with number 8200432514. The number label is missing from the drivers side offside driveshaft!!! Don't know what to do there.

Is it critical that the numbers match?

The local breakers yard didn't have any Megane 1.5DCi Mk2 5 speed driveshafts in stock. He only asked whether it was 5 speed or 6 speed and said any 5 speed driveshaft would be compatible.

Two new driveshafts cost more than the car is worth and no point putting new ones on the Megane with 134,000 miles on the clock.

I'd like to replace them myself but currently injured, I know the mechanic will do it but with mess up the cars tracking if he has to take the track rod ends off and on. Are they easy enough to do? Is it in the Haynes manual which I don't have? I've had 1/2 this car apart in the past but never tackled this before!!!

Cheers

You do not mess up the tracking by removing the track rod end...just 1 nut removed and a ball joint remover required..DO NOT TOUCH THE INNER CONNECTIONS...then undo the bottom ball joint connection and obviously the centre nut at the end of the driveshaft and a gentle pull of the drive shaft and it should come away from the gearbox...its a fairly easy job

Ok so I don't have a ball joint remover, usually a crow bar and hammer.

If all I then have to do is remove that big nut and pull I might have a go, but obviously the hubs need taking off too, I think they are a torx or allen bolt fit.

Still have to sort the numbers problem but I just might phone the ebay seller on Monday, they are a breakers yard so hopefully have the knowledge.

Thanks

Do you need drive shafts or just C/V joint, iv'e just done mine not that diff and you have to remove drive shaft, cost £25 ish each side + litre of gear oil

I suppose just the CV joints due to the clicking when turning but I was told I needed to replace the full driveshafts.

I've ordered a Haynes manual so I'll check it when I get it.

Pity nobody knows here about the part numbers having to exactly match, the ebay driveshafts say they are compatible with my megane.
