CAR FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON MOTORWAY - HELP!

Postby simba7 » Fri Nov 17, 2017 11:04 am

Hi,

I was driving on the motorway and switched gear from 5th to either Reverse or 4th before the engine revs starting decreasing and the car came to a halt.

When I push the start button without touching the clutch or brake the car tries to start but it sounds very crunchy like gears crunching against each other. I already changed the dephaser twice but I do not believe this to be one of the symptoms.

I will try to make a video but can anyone point me what the issue may be?

I have a Megane II 2004 1.6 VVT

Many Thanks

Wow sounds brutal!

Will it start with your foot on the clutch and in neutral?

The car starts as soon as I press start without pressing the clutch or brake.

It is really strange.
While it makes the noise I pressed the cambelt cover and can hear grinding.

Take the cover off and see if anything is obvious?

I don't think it should start just by pressing the start button, you either have to press the brake or the clutch as a safety feature so that the car won't jerk forward.

Not if he went into reverse it don't.
My ex-mrs wrecked a driving school car doing that, l wonder if they're insured for that.
Still strange about it starting without clutch or brake though, can only think there's a relay stuck in the engine multiplex module.
Bob.
