Low battery warning light

Postby judysan » Fri Sep 22, 2017 1:46 pm

Hi All. When driving home today after just pulling away the low battery warning light came on and the stop light came on .After about less than a minute they both went off and I continued home about 20 miles. Last September when this happened I did have a new alternator fitted and also got s new battery at the same time but at that time the warning light remained on the car. So both battery and alternator are only just over 1 year old. Could any one advise what could be the problem. Thanks. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
the low battery is probably refering to your keycard, not the car battery.
Might be good news for once.

I don't think it refers to the keycard as the manual states the message on the dash will be Replace keycard battery. However I am certainly no expert.

Hi Judysan,
l'm not an auto electrician either, l have come across the key scenario, but could have been a different car.
lf the new battery and charging rate are tested and prove to be good, maybe the starter is beginning to draw more than it should.
ln your first post, you say after pulling away, had the engine just been started ?
lf the warning only happens after starting, maybe thats the area to investigate.
Maybe a diagnostics would reveal something if you've got a code reader. As the warning came up, l would have thought an intermittent code might be registered.
Good luck
Bob.

Main battery earth lead ? or any earth lead

Had a 306 peugeot that always showed overheating on temp guage, turned out to be a faulty lead, main dealer could not find it and was found by accident.

Worth checking connectiosn and terminals if charge rate ok and battery ok

Thanks. Phil and Liz
Could you point me in the direction of the main battery earth lead and I will get my neighbour to check it.

Check battery and follow leads to make sure that there are no rusty or loose/worn connections
