MPG. how accurate

Postby Andyd358 » Sun Jul 30, 2017 2:48 pm

So I've just picked up a 1.5 DCI. 2004. Uses a lot leas fuel than the Nissan xtrail I had before. My question is how accurate is the MPG on the display. Just did a 40 mile trip in it mainly all motorway. And its telling me I have been getting 64 mpg. Mmmmmm. Seems a lot for such an old car.

Could be right however, with any car I've had I've done manual calculation from full tank to almost empty although it is a bit risky when you try and get as low as you can without running out

Yeah I know what you mean. Still a pleasant surprise mind you considering what I was used to with the X trail.

My 1.9 have me 63.5 fully loaded on a run a few weeks ago. Went up Preston from Solihull kept it to 70/75 daughter went to university there, wife, soon, myself and daughter in car with the rear completely full of girls stuff lol. Mine is the grand scenic 2005.

Having said all of that, the winter is when mine doesn't return good mpg around town though as it rarely gets warm, I think I generally get around 37 from now until February, march time.

1.5 dci 2008 average 62mpg A road travel with 3 town transits, regular commute 20 miles, still gotta do a full winter using this one but the 2012 1.5 110bhp engine never warmed up in winter and struggled to do 50mpg on same route in winter, 52 in summer. Best laugh is wifes auto clio dci 1.5 can get some fantastic figures on display, till she gets hold of it, then its low 50's. Mind you was driving hers the other week and she passed a comment 'why is it you drive slow on straights and go fast round bends ?'

Being a biker what I wanted to say was 'any fool can go fast in a straight line, it takes skill to go fast round corners' but discretion won the day and what i said was 'really dear, I'd not noticed this till you mentioned it'
