on the exterior there are painted plastic trim covers running up the a pillar alongside the windscreen, how on earth do you remove them i dont want to force them and break them. am asking as the bottom of one of the wives is not sitting flush and its annoying

Open the roof and then you will see a torx headed screw at the top of the A pillar. Remove the screw and then the trim slides up along the A pillar about 10mm - 15mm to release the trim from the heads of the clips.

You make this sound easy. I can't get my pillar cover back on.

After you have removed the trim, then prise out all the plastic retaining clips from the A pillar.
Refit all the plastic clips, one at a time to the trim panel, then align all the trim clip pointed ends with the holes in the A pillar and press the trim panel back into place. Finally refit the one torx screw at the top.
