Comms problems.

Postby Kenco » Fri Mar 31, 2017 10:13 am

Hello everyone, I'm hoping one of you lovely people might just be able to help.
My girlfriend has just bought a megane 1.6 cabriolet and it's got a couple of electrical faults.
The indicators don't work but the hazards do, the wipers only have one speed, high beam doesn't work and the button for the computer doesn't work. So does that sound like the comms unit? I have tried a second hand one but nothing changed.
Any advice or idea would be greatfully received

I would check all the wiring from the switch gear to the comms unit, alternatively the switch gear itself.

Are the comms unit and the switch gear not all together?

Hi,
l believe he means the stalks unit round the steering wheel, check all connectors and any damage to wiring.
The faults could be all isolated incidents to check out one by one but check all multi-connectors first.
Good luck and let us know if you find solution.
Bob.

OK, the wiring looks OK and I've checked the the switch gear. So does this now mean that the multiplex, uch is no good. Is it possible to test it?

Hi,
apart from checking and cleaning any multi connectors, l guess it needs diagnostics done for fault codes.
lf you can't do this yourself you need a good auto electrician to look at it.
lf it proves to be the multiplex module, they can be repaired, a new one is expensive.

Hi, just to let you know that I tracked the problem down to the red block connector on the back of the stalks. Somehow the connector had opened up. So after half an hour of fiddly work with a tiny screwdriver, everything is up and running again. So thank you for everyone that helped
