Noisy starter
Hi lately when starting from cold there is a strange noise which I presumed was from the starter motor not fully detaching itself from the flywheel...but looking on the forum here apparently a similar noise can be caused by a dephaser or something...not had the car long could somebody suggest am I looking at a big bill or just a new starter motor....it does not do it everyday maybe 1 in 4 days.....thanks

Re: Noisy starter
Hi,
l would guess that the starter has gone dry and is struggling to return off the flywheel.
lt's not a 5 minute job but it might only need greasing where the cog slides along.
Good luck
Bob.

That's what I thought...but got major worried reading about this dephaser thing...once the car starts with this noise it never happens again that particular day..has not done it for a few days when it does it 2 or 3 days on the run I will delve into it more....cheers Bob

Re: Noisy starter
It does sound like a dephaser pulley problem, without hearing it
Only does it when cold, after being stood a while. A dodgy starter would do it when warm.
Lots of information online. My car has the same problem, I start it with a few revs and it seems to help. Just hope it lasts untill I get a sorted. It can be really noisy. It runs great at other times, its just starting. Often turns over and over in the morning, but starts ok the rest of the time.
