So.. further to my introductory post here:
http://www.meganeownersclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26024My £160 bargain appears to have a couple of common faults.
So the car is a 2004 1.6 automatic. It has 44000 miles on it and is pretty immaculate.
The first problem is that when it is cold (and sometimes warm), it cuts out. First thing in the morning it sounds clattery and rattles and cuts out a couple of times. Always fires back up straight away.
Am I right in thinking its the dephaser?
Second problem, the front passenger side and rear passenger side windows don't work. No big deal as the air con is amazing, but it would be nice for a through draft sometimes.
Thanks in advance for any help.

1. Certainly sounds a dephaser issue.
2. Search in this forum for electric windows and you'll get plenty of results.

Thanks for the reply.
Well I thought i'd cracked the cutting out - looks like someone has attempted to change either the coil or the spark plug at some point because one of them wasn't bolted down as they'd managed to snap the head off the bolt that holds it in to the head so the coil wasn't being held on to the spark plug... I've sorted it but its still doing it.
The windows were sorted by simply unplugging, cleaning and replugging every connector from the switches to the motor. They all now work.

Hi,
I've got some pictures but I don't seem to be able to upload them on here. I've only got the option to link a URL to them.
If you want to drop me an e-mail to Chris.Casey at Ymail.com (obvs remove the at and replace with an @) then i'll send them on to you.

It's a shame to hear that you bought a Scenic with problems. Unfortunately, these cars are known for having a few common issues, such as transmission problems, electrical problems, and engine problems.
If you're still under warranty, I would recommend taking the car to a Renault dealer to have the problems fixed. However, if you're out of warranty, you may want to consider taking the car to a reputable independent mechanic who specializes in Renault vehicles.
It's also important to keep in mind that the Scenic is a relatively old car at this point, so it's important to be prepared for the possibility of further problems down the road. If you're not comfortable with
buy history essays or the risk of repairs, you may want to consider selling the car and buying something else.
