Just bought a Megane II - with a few hassles..

Postby q292u » Mon Sep 05, 2016 10:23 am

  • #1 "only works on #4 blower fan fault" FIXED
  • #2 (electric) rear window that doesn't open
  • #3 "Sticky" rear door - on unlocking, have to push the door gently before opening handle.
  • #4 Missing fuel flap cover FIXED

So, I reckon #1 is the resistor pack, #2 could be a fault in the electrics in the door, as could #3, and I've already ordered a replacement for #4, off ebay using the paint code.

Any advice appreciated.

Oh, and I bought a NEW Haynes manual for £12.95 (delivered) from ebay -here.. I notice that the new ones are paperback..

#1 will be the resistor
#2 will usually be the temic module on the window regulator can be replaced separately
#3 check alignment of the door catch they can sometimes move over time
if at first you don't succeed get a bigger hammer

Thanks for the tips! It's a really nice-looking car - I'd just like it all to work..
And it will...

Just been looking on eBay - there seem to be different types of resistor pack thingies - which one do I need?

remove the old resistor and check for part number then you can also do visual comparison with the ones on ebay

Quite right.

My problem is that I'm incredibly lazy, and that would mean doing three things rather than two.. :)
Action 1: Faff about getting the part out.
Action 2: Get a new part.
Action 3: Faff about installing it.

I'd rather combine the two "faffing" sections into one.. which I could only do if I knew which part before I opened it up..
Action 1: Order part
Action 2: Faff about swapping parts.

Ah well, it was worth a try..

Tried that. Unfortunately, there are two different units. One appears to be the aircon one, the other is non-aircon.
My car has aircon, but I'm not happy about ordering either unit, waiting a couple of weeks for delivery (HongKong) and then finding I have the wrong one..

Damnit, I'm going to have to open it up and have a look.

On the positive side, I received the replacement filler cap cover, in the correct colour (MEG69), and it just clicked into place. Magic.
It was £15 (delivered) from eBay. My local scrappy was asking more than that for the wrong colour.

I just finished fixing the "only works on max" blower fan issue.
I bought the replacement part from ebay, via a UK based seller. I'm not prepared to wait a month for delivery..
Here's the part I used..
So I had a good look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XI2MJl8W0yE (ignore the cheesy music, all the info is there in the images)
Before you start, get yourself a torch and some torx screwdrivers or keys. All the screws are torx. It's very tight in there, so no big handles..
It's fairly easy overall, but everything is a total pig to get at. I get the idea Renault don't want us to fix things ourselves.
First get the glovebox out. This involves five or six screws. One is hidden under a plastic tab, two (or three) inside the glovebox, and two hidden under the cover on the left. You need to remove both left-hand-side trims.
Once that's out, pop the bottom right cover. You still will not be able to see the resistor block. Look for the thick black and red wires. The resistor kit comes with replacement red/black wiring.
You need to remove the two screws holding the resistor block. These are a pig to get at. Just persevere with it.
Once those are out, you need to pop the connector on the other end of the wire. There is a retaining clip at the bottom which you can pop with your finger. now rotate the connector (the pivot is at the top). Once it's far enough out, the connector will pull off.
Now fit the new part, it's just the reverse of removing the old one. Be prepared to scrape arms and knuckles etc.
Test the blower motor before you re-assemble the glovebox.

When I tested mine, the car refused to start, In fact, it was worse than that: it made a sizzling noise and the "service" light came on. Oh dear. It turns out I had had the doors open, which meant the interior lights were on, and the battery drained.
Easily fixed: that battery charger I bought years ago saved the day again. Incidentally, how do you get the battery out? I just charged it in-situ.

I advise you to disconnect the battery before you start messing with the electrics.
I now need to enter the radio code again.

Anyway, the blower now works on all settings. It's bloody noisy though, is that normal?

Now, onto the non-working electric rear window..

Just to add to the saga:

The battery went flat when I fitted the resistor pack, due to the interior lights being on for ages.
I thought it was ok after I'd charged it, but it refused to start at the weekend after a load of stop-start messing about.
AA said the battery was junk.
I've replaced the battery with a second hand Bosch 440AH from the scrappy. £20 fitted. Plus my junk one.

The battery from the scrapyard worked a treat.

Did I mention that I had to replace a stop light bulb? Even that was deliberately difficult..
