A/C and Demister switch

evening all

I've got an issue with my 2003 2.0 vvt dynamique.

The A/C and rear window demister switch doesn't work at all. I press the buttons and the lights dont even come on.

the rest of the blowers/heater unit works perfectly fine?

any pointers?

First things that spring to mind would be to make sure your outside temperature sensor is working and not under reading, as the a/c won't switch on if the temperature is too low. Not sure what it is on the Renault, but on an Audi A4 I used to own it was 3 degrees C.

After that I'd be checking all of the fuses/relays related to air con. I'm guessing you can't hear the compressor kicking in? This may be down to one of those having blown. A quick look in Haynes says fuses F2C, F1R, F2S in the glove box and F4 in the engine bay are all air con related. Relays I'm not to sure about. I can't see any on the wiring diagram

When was the system last topped up with refrigerant? I don't know if it will even try to run without refrigerant in the system.

In all honesty, once you've checked the fuses/relays and the temp sensor, I think you're into specialist territory then.

Also search for the air con pressure switch, as this can be a cause of the issues you have.

the outside temp reads the same as 2 other vehicles I've checked so I don't think that's an issue.

nothing happens at all when I press either the A/C or rear demister switch, no lights, no noises, no de-misting.
In all honesty, it's the rear demister that bothers me more than the A/C

I'll have a look at the fuses later on and report back

no issues with any of the fuses, they're all intact. so i reckon its the switch.

any tips on stripping down the dash to get to it?
