Renault Megane Mk2 toxic fume system warning light

hi im buying a megane mk2 2003 1.6 but is got the toxic fume warning light come up on the dash, passed mother one month ago and the fumes were fine, so I'm just wondering what the problem could be?? I'm read that the 2003 had a bad spell with the coils but that's an easy £100 so is there anything else I can do to check or clean before going down that road?? many thanks
