wont start

Postby johnbrad68 » Sat Feb 28, 2015 9:11 pm

Hi all...im a newbie here and a newbie owner. I bought a 53 plate megane 1.4 16v. The last couple of days ive found an issue or 2. Firstly the car stalled and when i started it the radio, blowers and speedo didnt work. I stopped it and they all started again ok. Now today i got home after work it had been sttood a couple hours and when i went out put the card in pushed the button...nothing happened. All the dash lights came on and went out...apart from the battery light. I managed to push the car up a bank and let it roll down and it started....so i took it for a spin everything worked but no battery light on. I stopped the engine and the same again happened....so xould it be alternator...battery or the starter motor....any help would be well appreciated :rock

have you had the battery tested, to charge a battery fully takes over night , with the battery connected and the car running you can check the alternator is working with a multimeter , check the voltage with the multimeter across the terminals first with the engine not running ,it should be around the 12.2volts, when you have managed to start the engine check again and it should read around 14.4 volts to show that the alternator is putting a good charge in to the battery.

this will count out the alternator and battery if you have had it tested

Ok just to let you all know and for future reference if this happens to you....recap..wont start from the button..wont jump with cables but will bump.....cd player clock heaters rear demister speedo all going ofd and reading electronic fault...only to rest and be okay on restart....solved....
thank you for your posting...in actual fact both the issues i posted on here ended up being linked....firstly there was no power going out of the fuse box so i needed a fuse box...i contacted a guy near me who deals only in meganes and he fitted one for 45 quid..that didnt solve my starter issue......behind or in front of the clutch were 3 wired joined together. They had come loose. He located the home for them and eureka car started.....

Happy days :-P
