Boot locking issue **FIXED**

Postby megaNoob » Sat Oct 04, 2014 9:00 pm

Hi guys, I have an 04 plate megane with a couple of problems, the most pressing of which is the boot not locking.

If I lock the car (tried both one and two presses on the remote) then press the boot release button above the rear numberplate, open pops the boot!

As far as I can tell the lock is not even being triggered like the rest of the locks (i.e. doors etc..).

Any ideas?

I've had a similar issue in the past except in my case the boot wouldn't unlock. The problem, predictably enough, turned out to be water ingress into the lock mechanism & once I had dried out the lock it all worked well. The lock surround (i.e. the part in the boot lid with the soft button press to open the lock) is actually quite easy to gently prise out with a flat-head screwdriver. Once you've got that off you'll be able to check the mechanism for water.

I dismantled my lock to dry it out completely but it was slightly tricky to get the various springy parts back into place - you might therefore prefer to try some gentle hair-dryer heat on the lock or simply leave the cover off and boot lid open (and protected from rain!) for several hours to allow the water to dry off.

If this doesn't work then you may be looking at a broken wire - the Megane II is apparently somewhat susceptible to this - again, check the wires going into the boot release mechanism.

After seeing this thread here I tested my rear fog light as suggested in the linked thread, and it didn't work which lead me to believe I had exactly the same issue (dodgy resistor on the BCM/UCH behind glovebox) as the poster in that thread.

I got to the BCM and found a blown resistor up by the plastic connectors. I soldered in a replacement resistor (100 ohms) across the two pins circled in the image below. The image also shows the blown resistor.

This has fixed both the rear fog light, internal floor lights and now the boot correctly locks too!
