2.0 Litre Petrol sounding loud and rough!

Postby madwedge » Sun Aug 10, 2014 6:39 pm

I have a problem but not sure what it could be.

I have a Megane II VVT Dynamique 2.0 litre petrol, and the car starts perfectly fine first time.

The only thing is it sounds a bit like a diesel, lol. It just sounds a bit loud and rough, and this doesn't change once the engine has warmed up. It's consistent. Especially at about 70 mph the car is very loud.

Could this be the Dephaser Pulley that'll need replacing? Or could it be something like the Ignition Coils?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Edit - I should add, it's a 54 plate so about 10 years old. I did have the cambelt and water pump changed 2 years ago.

Any help anyone? This is apparently a common issue with Megané II pre facelift models.

Many thanks.
