heating blower fan switch scenic 1.9 dci

hi, ive have just had a used scenic 04 plate 1.9 dci I used to have scenic meganes for about 10 years but never came across this problem before. the switch dial for the fan and air con go.s from 0 to 4 but only operates on number 3 is it a common fault in the switch or is it a wireing problem have any one got an idea what I should do to remedy this electronics on this car is a lot more then I am used to, but I think the car is brilliant and would like to get it sorted.

I have seen this problems lots of times. Remove the instrument panel to gain access to the heater resistor. You will more than likely find it has failed and also burnt the multi plug.
You can get the resistor from most aftermarket parts suppliers but you will have the get the modified plug from a main dealer and cut and solder the wires.
