While I quite like my Megane Tourer for its cheapness to run, I would try another make next time. Prob German or Japanese.
For me, the Megane is below average out of the cars I've had (Ford, Vauxhall, Seat) so wouldn't have another.

This is because the Tourer is made in Turkey. If only you tried the one built at the Alpine factory in Dieppe... and with a lim slip diff, of course.

It's not about the car, but rather about the dealership. There is a reason why people do not choose a better job...

I think you're right Alex... could it be the supposedly better makes have just as many problems as any other, but are sorted out quickly and efficiently by dealers/garages that care more...

I've read on this forum alone about megane owners repeatedly going back to have something small fixed, like a leaky door or something...

The number of problems does not necessarily indicate a worse design. Often it is a more advanced design with which the servicing industry are unable to cope. Furthermore, premium models may have certain basic features missing and the features _perceived_ as premium included. Then comes the profile of an average user...

By coincidence the guy who sits next to me in work bought a Mazda 6 2.2D after his BMW 320d blew a turbo. After 9 months the DPF warning light keeps coming on and it's £1800+VAT for a new one + labour!!

Funnily enough he has stopped telling me what a mistake it was to buy a 2004 Megane 1.9 dci - total repairs in 12 months £64 (not including 3 oil changes at £50 a pop).

I fiund this interesting because I've owned many cars in the past 20 years from Japanese, German, British, etc. and it seems that most of them had their quirks and in every owners club I've ever belonged to, there was always people that were complaining (including myself) about their cars. A few years ago I bought a brand new Mitsubishi ASX Aspire and I was quite disappointed with it and swore off ever buying another Mitsubishi. Ironically, the cars that I've had the best luck with are the same cars that are considered lemons and everyone bitches about.. in my case a 2006 Mazda RX8 GT and a 2003 Jaguar X-Type (3.0L V6) and both of these cars ran flawlessly for the entire period that I've owned them. Go figure. :)
