Engine Management code - p0400 ( egr solenoid valve)

Postby DMB1 » Sat Mar 15, 2014 10:48 am

Hi recently my engine management light has came on, in my 04 1.4 megane. I plugged in one of those generic code readers and it came up with a fault p0400 - exhaust gas recirculation flow. Looking at the above manuals it seems the proper code is df114 - egr solenoid valve circuit.

Sorry for being a novice but what is this and are is the part expensive?

Thanks

Mark...

The df114 fault code solenoid valve (circuit) which implies you have a circuit fault. This would need to be checked out wiring from this valve to the corresponding ecu pin nos Hth Regards Mickeybo

I think I had that code before, was def an egr valve issue and the fix is to take the valve out and clean it with brake calibre cleaner (think it was) and mine is still going strong a year later. If you want to replace it the part was £100-200 if memory serves correct...

Excellent, will give it a try. Thank you.

I didn't think it was brake cleaner:

I would recommend getting a couple cans (if your only car is the one your taking apart as mine was and my egr was filthy inside) also gloves are key and I used a tub to clean it in that I ended up binning as it was never the same again, also if it's as filled up as mine was it is pretty difficult to get out but does come in the end :)

Oh and Almost forgot 17p toothbrushes are good for the gaps,

So been looking further into this and I've been told the 1.4 petrol engines don't have an egr valve.

Is this correct?

Anyone know if the above information is correct?

Getting rid of my car and want to get this fault sorted as the EML doesn't go off.

You don't like the car - sell it cheaper...

Considering I've had the car 7 years, I think it's unfair to say I don't like it. Thanks for the input though.

Fair comment. Still, DIY repair, in my view, only makes sense if keeping the car while enjoying the process. One would be wasting time otherwise.

I plan to trade it in to get the 2010 dynamique coupe, but the renault dealers won't give me much with the engine management light off, so would prefer to get it sorted, to not give them an excuse to offer me less on my own.

Reading up on the forums, it seems it could possibly be one of the O2 sensors. Don't know what to do, going forward.
