esp problem and getting to number plate fuse???

Hi there im new to this kind of thing so bare with me...
Ive just noticed my number plate bulbs on my megane 225 are both out but ive checked the bulbs and they both work... I chected on a forum and it saying if the drivers side light is out it would be a fuse gone..... so I tried to change the fuse under the bonnet but couldn't get to it.... in the process I discounted the cable which runs from the battery to the fuse box connecter under the bonnet and now after putting it back together the esp triangle has come on my dash saying its been disconnected.... ive tried pushing the button to connect it but nothing is happenig??? Could you please help me with this and also how to get to the fuse box under the bonnet??? Thanks chris..
