2007 Megane II DCI 150 GT Brake Servo

Postby sammii1991x » Wed Jan 15, 2014 5:46 pm

Hi I'm a newbie to your forum, I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice?
I have a 2007 Megane (DCI 150 GT thingy)
I bought it in November and now my brake servo needs replacing which has been confirmed by Halfords Autocentre.
The problem I have is that I have a warranty with RAC sold by the dealer I got the car from. He hasn't sent the paperwork so there is a dispute about that BUT halfords are saying that the servo is drivers side and you need to take the pedal assembly and master cylinder etc out but renault are saying it is passenger side.
Halfords showed me that the autodata says that it is drivers side and is giving 5.3 hours to complete the job but renault say that it is 3 hours. Can anybody tell me please which side and estimated job time? As I am going round in circles and RAC won't authorise the job because they are also saying 3 hours apparently going by their autodata screen??!!

As you can probably tell I'm female so plain English please :D

It is on the left side of the car when you are in the car and looking forward. no meter on which side is your steering wheel, also 3 hour is fine.

Thank you for your reply :D so stupid question does this job require them to mess about with every item on that list you just posted? :? ie pedal assembly, servo, return valve, vaccuum etc or do they only need to mess about with part of the car?

i wouldn't know. as maybe it is some of the other problems and not the servo, ie, the rest and not the servo.

If a Renault dealer can do the job in 3 hours and the RAC will pay for 3 hours why not let Renault fix it?

I sure as hell wouldn't let Halfords anywhere near the brakes on my car.

If you've only had the car 6-10 weeks you should be putting the onus on the dealer who sold you the car to sort it out and not worrying about it yourself. A car whose brakes fail so soon after purchase isn't fit for purpose in my opinion and the seller should sort it out irrespective of any warranty.

Use the Sale of Goods and Services Act and your consumer rights to make the dealer to repair your car. Remember, they have 3 attempts before full refund.

If you start using the 3rd part warranty, you will loose you right to claim against the dealer.

Under no conditions use dodgy garages, especially those who have no idea about where the Servo is located. Are you confident in their diagnosis, BTW?
