Hey guys my airbag light has came on and the service light, the steering wheel has started clicking when turning, i noticed looking where the steering wheel attaches there seems to look like plastic crippled together and turns when i turn the wheel? could the air bag light and this be related? plus is this dangerous? could my airbag be deployed without warning?
cheers

That would be the ribbon snapped inside the unit which sets the airbag lights on. You will need to replace the rotary unit (whole unit with the wiper / indicator stalks).
Usually, the airbag light being on means that they will not deploy even in an accident, but I wouldn't want to risk finding out, or that being proved correct. Either way, it's an MOT-failure

The airbag trigger circuit goes through the snapped ribbon cable. The same cable carries other circuits with voltage in them. Even if the airbag controller is disabled, there might be a very small chance of the trigger circuit coming in contact with the other circuits, e.g. the horn... Very small.

Re: Airbag light on and steering wheel clicking when turning
Hi Frankie! There is no such thing as a cheap new unit. New ones are available only from Renault at high cost. Best option is to search Ebay and buy from a breakers yard. This is a risk because most will come from cars that have had airbag deployed but this does not seem to be a problem. I have bought two units this way and they have proved reliable. Unfortunately the breakers are aware of the prices of new ones and price their items accordingly.
There are two kinds depending on whether you have auto lights or not. If only the wrong type is available, it is possible to swap switches from one to another as they are basically the same.
Fitting is quite easy and this has been covered several times on the Forum. See the attached link (with photos which are still available) that I wrote almost 4 years ago. Don't worry about the airbag exploding!
Best of luck
Mike
