1.5dci engine juddering at cetain throttle position
Hi everyone,
Got a 54 plate 1.5dci, low mileage that runs fine apart from 1 problem;
Engine will start to judder (rev counter needle bounces up and down) when;
Low speed (usually under 40)
At one certain point on the throttle (very low throttle)
Pressing throttle more or backing off throttle will clear problem.(no fault displayed on dash)
Has anyone else had this problem or can advise ?

what about the car bouncing? any shakes?
Re: 1.5dci engine juddering at cetain throttle position
No shakes
When engine starts to judder you can feel it through car

At what revs does it happen?

Re: 1.5dci engine juddering at cetain throttle position
always between 1000~1800 rpm
always when trying to maintain low speed 0~35 mph with small amount of pressure on accelerator pedal
as previous post, if i press slightly harder on accelerator to speed up or release accelerator pedal to slow down the "juddering" stops.
The "juddering" is hard to describe, its like bouncing your foot up and down on the accelerator pedal several times a second.

Mine does it in 4th and 5th gear doin between 30-40 mph, i think its a throttle pedal issue but as of yet i dont have anty dtc's

The mount point or the dual mass flywheel... They get stressed under low rpm. The EGR valve may also cause problems at low loads. Check the oil as well. Under such driving it has to be changed frequently. Use the blotter test to monitor oil quality - a drop of oil on a business card. Once soaked, it must leave a uniformly grey circle. Any non-uniformity means it needs urgent change.

Re: 1.5dci engine juddering at cetain throttle position
the 54 plate is what manufacture year? only since 2006 ou 2007, not sure whick year, the dual mass started to be used, before that there were a normal flywheel, single mass.
what you describe at that speed, seems to me that the upper engine mount is gone.
do this test: start driving at the speed you told, then change the gear and maintain speed, test with a slightly gas pedal movement. if any bounces is done no matter gear you're using the mount is gone.

Re: 1.5dci engine juddering at cetain throttle position
I am sure it's not flywheel or engine mount related. Juddering is being caused by engine not running smoothly.

Can it be the EGR valve stuck open?

Re: 1.5dci engine juddering at cetain throttle position
Sorry to Hijack the OP's thread but I am having a similar issue.
If it is like what I am experiencing, It is like clutch judder. I have no clutch slip and the bite is at a reasonable bite, but whenever I am moving at low speed from traffic lights, it's like I am driving like my mother and the car "Judders".
I have a Megane II 2003 1.4 16V. Is it only Diesels that have EGR valves?

Re: 1.5dci engine juddering at cetain throttle position
You didn't read the manual in the sticky thread, did you?.. Yes your engine is significantly different.
I think you need to create a separate thread and start with the beginning, i.e. the history and basic checks (oil usage, oil quality, filters, spark plug colour, water in petrol, etc.). In 1.4 petrols people often use a cheap mineral oil, which guarantees throttle body soiling. Coils also fail very frequently.
Then read the OBD codes and record live data from the engine while replicating the fault. Plot this data and post it here.

Re: 1.5dci engine juddering at cetain throttle position
Thanks for the reply.
I did read the manuals in the stickies, but I am not a techno kind of person. I have searched the forums and posted questions. Throttle body was cleaned but didn't relieve the fault. Saying that Im not sure if the throttle body was removed to be cleaned by the mechanic and they may have just squirted carb cleaner in. Perhaps I could have a go tomorrow
So reading the threads and when they mention ERG's, MAP's ,TDC and other sorts of sensors can be confusing. I have also been advised it could be phaser pulleys. I thought this only applied to VVT engines.
I'm grasping at straws. Op asked if anyone else had similar problem. Will try and film it tomorrow.
