EGR

Postby mrl050990 » Fri Jul 26, 2013 12:38 pm

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place for it so apologies if not,

Random question..... what would happen if i was to remove the EGR from my 1.9dci?

Can you litteraly just remove it and put a cover over the hole? If so what would this do?

Thanks
Matt

Nothing at all... The car would most likely run smoother.

You would have a yellow caution light on your dashboard for sure... MOT Failure

Emissions would be out... MOT Failure.

Hope this helps..?

EGR Blanking plates are available on ebay but you may find the ECU doesn't like it. If you google EGR blanking plates you will see the are apparently successful for many makes of car but I haven't found a Renault owner who has tried them.

Removing the EGR valve would cause the combustion temperatures to dramatically increase as exhaust gases are recycled into the piston chambers in order to reduce Nox and increase fuel economy. The other knock on effect of removing the EGR valve would make the turbo run at much higher temperatures and thus reducing its reliabilty.

I seriously would advise against doing it as i know of 2 people personally that have and within months of doing so their turbos failed and even one of them sucked metal fragments into the engine forcing them to replace the engine and Turbo.
