How to get a good airbag squib from breakers yard!!!!!

Car fixed,

Heres how to get a good squib/clock spring/ rotary switch from a breakers yard:-

1.find a facelift ( about 56ate onwards) car any model or style, Make sure the drivers airbag HAS gone off, don't worry about functions such as auto button, front fogs ect there not important providing yours work.

2. Remove the squib from the vehicle and very carefully set it to centre, this is done by pressing the spring and turning it either way until a round hole with 2 arrows either side of it becomes visible through the hole in the black centre cover when it's in the central position, this is now dead centre(straight wheels)

3. Next get a multimeter with one probe and one croc clip, strip some cable or get a very small piece of metal something like a pin, that will fit inside the connections on the blue and green airbag connector, and clip it with your croc clip.

4. Set multimeter to continuity ( so it beeps when probes are touched together), turn your squib over and you will see 3 sockets, you need the one on the right of the red one if the red one is at the bottom, it has a spring inside it that shorts all the connections together when unplugged.

5. Put probe on to socket and what ever you ave clipped in your croc clip into the airbag connector, if its a good one the multimeter will beep, repeat this for all 4 airbag connector terminals and then finally the negative that screws into the steering wheel it's self, if you get a beep on all connectors and negative you've found a good one.

6. If the new one has all same features as your car fit it in the centre position mentioned earlier, with the wheels straight.

7. If its got extra features or some features missing take it home and remove the screws on the front of the stalks and the radio control, using a terminal screwdriver undo the clips around the edge of the main unit and carefully take off the font cover complete with the airbag ring, do the same on the old one and then fit the new airbag ring onto your old unit, put a screws and radio controls on ect.

8. Fit to car, reconnect battery and start engine, airbag and serv light will now be off.

Not got any pics as this guide was an after thought and now car is fixed I'm not taking it apart until it breaks again which I'm sure it will.
