Engine fault light flashing???

Postby Funkycoldmadina » Tue Feb 26, 2013 7:26 pm

Hi Guys,
New member, hoping you can spread some light on an issue i have with my 56plate 225 sport cup.
Had the problem for a while now and although it's been for a service (Not Renault) and specifically for the fault, it still persists.
It's been running lumpy and noticed they hadn't replaced the spark plugs during the service. So i went ahead and done this. With quality, obviously.
Helped but didn't solve the problem, so when it was brought in to find the fault they hooked it up and found it miss firing and that it had a fault on the 3rd coil,
which was duly replaced. This cleared the fault for a day and the fault light came back, so then just to make sure it wasn't any of the other coils i replaced the lot.
It now runs better, No loss in speed or anything but still idles lumpy like it's missing and showing the fault light. Haven't been able to diagnose as yet hoping to get it to garage at the weekend. Any ideas??

check youre hoses and look for a vacum leak somewhere...

in rare cases a loose vacum pipe can make an engine run ruff..

Also did the garage clear the code fault when the coil was replaced.

Thanks for the response people, haven't been able to check the hoses yet Keyholder. I'll do this at the weekend.
As for the engine fault it hasn't been cleared yet, but once cleared this would not have a detrimental effect on the engine idle.
Haven't got code for you AlexB, let you know as soon as.

O.k so, took the car to the garage and they hooked me up to the heart monitor and all sorts of things were displayed.
Mainly the fault that kept re-occuring was a coil no: 2 fault. This was strange as i had just replaced all the coils, so i switched it for the one that the garage had replaced earlier.
The car ran alot better although still displaying the engin fault light. I then took it to specialist who suggested that i replace the spark plug for that coil and see if this cures the lumps and bumps. I'm also going to clean the EGR valve as i heard that my be an issue. If anybody else has an idea please feel free to post.
Thanks.

Funkycoldmadina,

I have the next generation of the same engine. The coils there must be insulated by applying a special non-setting "grease" Fluostar 2L made with fluorine (not silicone). Without it the coils do not live long. You must also use high performance spark plugs with iridium tips. It is all about the energy of the spark, which needs to be contained inside. Almost all petrol Meganes loose their coils in servicing because of not using this grease.

Thanks AlexB, I'll see about the grease tomorrow when i can take a closer look. As for the plugs the NGK PFR7G-9 as i said i replaced the lot and have been advised to get another and replace the fault prone coil no:2. This is on it's way, although the car has been running better it's beginnig to get worse. Need to get this sorted before the end the month as it's MOT time. I take it the grease is applied to the tip of the coil which then sit over the plug???

Yes, it is in the manual and one of technical notes.

Cheers pal, Where can I find this Fluostar 2L grease bearing in mind that I'm in North London. Checked the web and only came back with German results. Put the new plug in today and although it's running better it's still not on par as when purchased. Thinking now about replacing injector no: 2 or failing this booking it in at the end of the week as am getting sick of this. Would you recommend this or replace all the injectors.

I put a link into Parts and Accessories. It's pretty expensive though. What German web site did you find? Postage from Germany is not bad.

Regarding the injectors - no idea. I bought a petrol Megane just recently, still learning. I would imagine they can be checked somehow. Back to reading the manuals and web browsing...

O.k. finally i have sussed the problem and it turns out that i need a new injector valve. Took long enough, still got there in the end.

Before this though I'v got get through the mot and i need a Lambda senor (post) i think. Does anyone know where i can get one with out paying though the nose.

Their about £100.00 i believe, but if i can get one for cheaper it's going to be a bonus.

It's for Megane sport 2.0T....Why are these things so expensive. It's becoming painful, please help. :cry
