Postby tomalamix » Tue Aug 28, 2012 9:56 am

Hy there,

I dont know if this has ever been an issue to someone but i have to ask if it was and if there is a solution to repair this.

ive got 2 or 3 spots on the roof and door lining coming off, the glue that keeps the tissue in place has quit of making this job. there is any solution to repair this without removing the all tssue from the part and glue everything together again?

thanks!

Tom,

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Are you talking about the paint on the outside, or the fabric (cloth/leather/etc) on the inside?

Cheers.

its the fabric inside the car. i think it is glued to the roof sponge, the same in the doors...

the fabric is coming off, slowly, and the car its starting to seem like a 25 year old car...

Did you disinfect the aircon at any point? Renault specifies a specific disinfectant with a special applicator that protects the interior of the car...

I also have the same problem, the upholstery has started hanging from the roof. I was thinking about using a needle to insert some glue in.

I can't believe (well I can) that some rogue disinfectant can cause this type of problem. Surely not?

Has this been documented before?

The adhesive Velcro strips fell off the floor mats after they serviced the aircon at the dealers a couple of years ago. This stuff is very strong. I have no idea if they used a correct procedure of application or just just did what the others do... In my case, however, nothing else was affected. The aircon is also fine, which points at good quality job.

the needle solution is a good approach but i think the fabric will become sunk in glue in a matter of time...

the only solution i know is to take off everything, clean the old glue and apply a thin layer of new glue, but for now i would like a different approach, a time saving solution, like the syringe idea or something to avoid the major job of removing the whole linings...

cheers

Someone should take a bottle of HCl or H2SO4 or NaOH with a good molar strength and see what happens to the glue... I can't believe that something such as sodium hypochlorite/acetone, diluted to human sensitive levels would cause such damage... Unbelievable, though, of course, something has happened. I would be very interested to find out more.

Sorry for the oddball questions!
