Oil in Engine Bay - See Picture

Postby safc2005 » Sat Jun 23, 2012 10:34 am

Hi All,

Just wondering if you could assist on the below picture items C and E (link from post on herw - thanks "davelowe")

Image

I have oil in the engine bay it appears to be either coming from C underneath and standing oil on E?

If you could assist that would be great, I would like to know what 'c' and 'e' are aswell please?

Cheers
Steve

Photobucket seems to have cropped my image. It's late now, so, if no one else intervenes, I'll check it out tomorrow.

Check inside pipe B for oil, if there's any at all it's from your turbo but make sure it's not coming from your oil cap.

The oil cap bottle/dipstick can get blocked.

Thanks for the response guys, last time I looked it didn't appear to be coming from the filler cap, only the wet oil under 'c' on davelowe pic, would it be easier if I took a picture?

I am having to top the car up on a weekly basis as the oil-level / service light is coming on.

Thanks in advance.

Take a picture, it is always useful.

What I alluded to in my previous reply was that the PCV hose goes into the filler bottle. It should separate oil mist from other vapours, the former is designed to drain back into the sump surplus oil. When the small tube at its base gets blocked with wax, oil is sprayed into the intercooler and other places it ought not to be. My solution was to unbolt said bottle, and clean it and associated pipework. This can cause all sorts of ms-diagnoses including a failing turbo.

C is a diaphram valve which controls a butterfly valve ( by vacum) inside D - As far as im aware E is just an air defuser , aka airflow disrupter., as there are no mechanical or moving parts inside E just a few slots, which air can travel into disturbing the path of air traveling to the intercooler.

I myself has oil coming out of C, which is probably due to a, past turbo failure and not being cleaned up correctly, b, have blocked oil passages on the system, mainly oil bottle / catch tank.

Check the 'tank' / refill bottle. It only needs three 10mm head bolts to pull off - I bet you £5 its blocked with crap - that or the other lines...

LOL - I suppose the question remains - did cleaning the bottle and tubing fix it?!
