Fan on full speed

Postby Clivs_mugan » Wed Apr 25, 2012 11:00 am

Hi All
I have a megane 2 estate, 57plate, 1.9dci, manual, done 72000 awaiting service.
For a short a short while i have noticed the radiator fan is running at full speed, even when just started up it does it, temp gauge in dash is showing normal running temps as it always has. Just want to know what it might be and is there a easy fix for it?
I normally take my car for service at my local garage whom i know and trust, avoid costly renault labour charges, whoever I may consider taking it to renault for this next service as i think it is cambelt time, any ideas of cost for that?
cheers
Clive

I can't help with the fan issue unfortunately.

However, I would have thought that the timing belts needing changing would be a good time to avoid a Renault dealership. If you know and trust a local independent, as you say, then get them to do it (or at least quote for it).

Parts should be about £125 (£85 timing belt kit, £25 water pump, £15 aux belt) and labour is about 3 hours which cost me £120 when I had mine done.

So target price is £250.

:)

Maybe we should have a sweepstake to guess the Renault dealership quote for belts, etc and a 72k service. I'll start with ...........£575.

The only time that I have come across the the rad fans running at full speed (both of them) is when the ECU is being coded or read from. When this happened to me, I also read 'battery low' on the display. This has never been satisfactorily explained; not least since there was a PSU connected to the battery at the time.

Do you have any other problems? Have you had the battery CCA checked?

Morgan: I'll up you to £625 :D

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!
