Indicator Flashing fast

Postby joeuk1973 » Thu Mar 22, 2012 4:47 pm

Hi,

I have a 2003 1.6 16V petrol Megane 5 door hatch.

I had a funny thing happen and would like some help, my drivers side front indicator decided to start to flash rapidly then stopped working, however, it has no started working again but is a little dim. I took it to Renault and they wanna charge me £40 to investigate the issue as i thought to begin with it was just an indicator problem. Can anyone advise me if it is just the bulb and needs replacing or is it worth spending £40 to have it investigated.

Could be that the bulb holder isn't seated correctly and it's not earthing properly.

Stick your arm up through the access panel in the wheel arch (with steering on full lock) and feel for the back of the bulb holder. It's shaped like the stopper on a hot water bottle. To get it out turn 1/4 turn anti clockwise and pull backwards. Once out give it a clean and replace the bulb if necessary before putting back. There is not much room to manoevre but it's not difficult. When I did mine I cut about 1cm off the end of the bit you grip so that it clears the obstructions easier when refitting.

Mine started flashing fast when i hit a pothole but then returned to normal..then went to fast flashing randomly etc and so I just removed the bulb and re-seated it. Worked flawlessly ever since.

One for the archive! Fast flashing almost always means some bulb somewhere has failed (for whatever reason).

Was going to say a relay fault if it wasn't the connection

the bulb holder works loose, hence the rapid flashing saying a bulb has gone. it was a recognised fault.

a new bulb holder now has bigger connectors to stop it working loose.

That`s what two Renault mechanics told me.

My Meggy gets this every now and then. Removing the bulb holder is next to impossible (Xenon headlight model) so twisting the bulb holder around a bit usually helps!
