Front sping broken, again... - cause found

The right side spring is gone, snapped while the car was parked. One and half years ago the left side spring was replaced, as its tip also snapped quetly and surreptitiously. The car is 53 plate, so this looks like metal fatique.

Does anyone know the best place to buy the OEM spring and the top bearing for the strut? The bearing, actually, does not need to be OEM, as long as it is of a good quality. The car is BM0G, 5 door 1.9dci 120 hp hatch.

Have you tried euro car parts? They usually stock everything, and at the moment there is a 25% off special.

Edit: the springs they supply are made by Sachs, not OEM, but I wouldn't be buying more OEM springs that seem prone to snapping anyway.

Thank you, Anthony. It was also my initial thought, but having different springs left and right... I am not going to do the other side now - it is almost new.

Well probably the best place to ensure you are getting OEM would be either a main dealer or Renault Parts Direct.

The mystery behind the failing springs is solved -- they fail due to corrosion, which weakens the surface area under stress and initiates a crack. The powder coating, once penetrated, traps the rust and causes it to eat deep into the metal. It is a design fault, where the powder coating was used erroneously in stead of galvanisation and wrapping the spring in some plastic tubing.
