injectors might be dripping,

basically dripping fuel into pot and come start up it doesn't burn off and comes out as white smoke.

are you also bearing in mind its freezing outside and hot smoke comes out etc more to start with

you can check the glow plugs also. the car starts fine or it seems there is a "leg" missing?

There is a sticky on how to check the plugs - the 1.9 will start fine without them. Very simple procedure with a multimeter. Should be 0.6Ohm between connector and earth. No need for more diagnosis at this stage. Any that read high or shorted are dead. Replace for £10.

If this is not the problem, continue diagnosis (read the manual or ask)!
