Hello, Only had my Megane ii for a week (52 plate) and it seems to be going through oil at an alarming rate. Havent noticed any oil on the floor and doesn't seem to be billowing out the exhaust, well no more than other cars. On a cold start there is a plume of smoke from the back but as soon as its warm it seems ok. Really like the car and it's a pleasure to drive so don't want to get rid, but if it's something quite serious...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Re: Burning Oil
the first step is to measure the quantity of consumed oil. do you have any estimate value? 1L in 1000km? 2L in 1000km?
Re: Burning Oil
Just discovered it's been leaking out. Appears to be near the passenger side wheel??? Taking it to the renault garage tomorrow I think...
Re: Burning Oil
Right - Took the car to the renault garage and they said the inter cooler pipe had split - they replaced it and serviced the car. On the way to work the next day (today!) the engine suddenly started reving high billowing smoke everywhere even inside! Ditched the car and got recovery to take the car back to the garage. Is this a fault that should should have been picked up by Renault and are they at fault?
Cheers

Re: Burning Oil
They most certainly should have checked for radial play in the turbo with so much oil in the intercooler pipe, and with broken intercooler pipe it should tell them about too high pressure, too. If they had checked, they would have probably advised fitting a new turbo. Now you can just pray that your engine is not a write-off.

Unfortunately they have no training searching for the origin of the problems, they do have in swapping parts (€€€€ income) until the problem is solved, thats the Renault (and other brands) culture..

Looks like I'm going to need a new engine. Does anyone know the engine model number - F9Q 800 or 812? It's the dci 130 dynamique
Cheers for the replies guys - looks like this could be an expensive new year!

Re: Burning Oil
There are no "dci 130" on 52 plates. Yours is at best dci 120, which is F9Q 800. It was supposed to be advertised appropriately.
The first garage is responsible for the damage. They were supposed to check/replace the turbo plus pipes instead of just swapping the intercooler. The actual damage took place when the engine was revving uncontrollably. You were supposed to shut it down either by quickly pressing the Stop button 5 times (air choke cut off) or by stalling the car in gear. You were unaware of this because Renault UK chose not to include this information into the user manual.
Now you know whom to blame. Does it make you feel better?
Best wishes.
