Crank Position Sensor - Modified loom Questions?

Hello all,

I am led to believe the Crankshaft Sensor on these Megane's is a common problem so you may have experience.

Its a 2004 1.6 55k

I have got a new crank sensor from Renault but it had to come with a modified/new wiring plug and loom which has to be joined to existing wiring.

My question is why? The Crank sensor is identical to original and so is plug, why is the new plug & wiring required. Is it a water/oil ingress issue?

When I add this wiring does it all need to hidden under the loom plastics?

Any tips on fitting?

it's not for the phase 2 (2006>) models is it?
