FM quiet - CD/Changer/LW/AM fine

Hi guys,

Bit of an odd one for the collective knowledgebase here - my radio, FM only has gone super quiet. I have to crank it to the mid 20's for it to be audiable, then after listening to a station for a couple of minutes it sounds like the reception dies out, even in what is usually a strong signal area.

After a few hours of driving listening to the CD's at regular 15-20 volume I turned back to radio and all was fine. Then it just went fuzz crackle fuzz then back to really quiet.

Just not sure what could cause this at all!?

Is there an FM amp that's failed/failing?

Do these radios have a "diversity" input? ie two FM inputs?

no dual inputs.
i didn't think there was a seperate fm amp. just a single amp for whatever source you're listening to.
it is possible it's corrosion on the aerial which is giving poor signal.

Sounds like an odd one, one thing to try would be to put a different aerial in the back of the radio see if that solved the problem, might give more of an idea as to whether it's the car aerial or the actual radio..

I used to have a similar problem with a different radio and it sounds as though it's aerial related for sure. At a guess I would say it may be the aerial connection block of the radio that is at fault and may well be the culprit.

Cool, thanks for the help guys.

I'll pull the radio out and re-seat all the connections at the weekend. The Changer is a little loose on one side and I gave it a bit of a whack the other day to try and get it to clip back in (to no avail) so maybe I disslodged something.

Thanks again.
