Hi all, I think I have started with the dreaded dephaser pully symptoms (loud rattle on start combined with immediate stall). When I bought the car last september part of the deal was that I went 50:50 on a 'cam belt and pulleys' change. I am fairly naive and only asked for this because I was advised the cam belt was due and that I should also ask for the pulleys at the same time. can anyone tell me what pulleys I would reasonably expect to have been included. At the moment I suspect the work may not have been done and the car dealer may have pocketed my money but don't know if the dephaser should have been done.
Thanks in advance
Al.

Re: cam belt change and pulleys?
only the tensioner pulley has to be changed but it's common to replace the water pump as it's quite cheap and you already have the timing belt of.
the dephaser pulley because of it's cost rarely get's done until it starts failing.

Thanks Chewbacker,
I have surrendered to the inevitable and booked it in to be fixed next week. De-phaser pulley, cambelt kit, water pump and oil&filter service for £650 don't know whether that's a good price but I'll not be down the pub for a while

Re: cam belt change and pulleys?
Is the cambelt and timing belt the same thing, and is the auxiliary and dephaser the same??
Re: cam belt change and pulleys?
Joe, I'm no expert but think the timing & cambelt are the same thing and the other two are different. from my limited knowledge the auxillary belt usually drives things like the alternator whereas I think the dephaser pulley is a specialist aspect of the VVT system. Hopefully one of the more knowledgeable members will either confirm or refute this for you.

Re: cam belt change and pulleys?
yep, thats correct. The dephaser are linked with the timing belt / cambelt, its part of the whole timing mechanism part.
