I drove home late last night and once home had to start my car and a message "change oil soon" displayed and the service light came on, I check the oil level and it had three bars on the indicator, I thought I needed more oil so added a litre today, I am now concerned I might have put to much in, the dipstick is at the top level' the oil level on the message screen is showing all bars and the message says oil level ok!
Does anyone know if putting a litre of oil in with three bars on the indicator will have overfilled the engine?
My car is a 2005 1.5 dci. The manual states it holds 4.5 litres of oil?..
Thanks in advance
Help engine oil possible overfill

Re: Help engine oil possible overfill
normaly from min on dipstick to max is 1 litre so presuming 3 bars is half way down the dipstick yes you have over filled it by half a litre.
i would not worry to much as diesels burn a little oil any way so it should settle down
