Fuse Box Under The Bonnet

Postby ikhan » Sat Jul 30, 2011 3:59 pm

Hi, I'm trying to access the fuse box under the bonnet to check a couple of fuses (well, just the one really).

I managed to get the cover off, but the fuse I want to check is hidden under something else.... How can I access this? Is this the switching protection unit which requires the removal of the battery etc? Is there an easier way?

TIA

Thanks for the replies.

Managed to get to the fuse I wanted to get too without too much dismantling.

Fuse was ok so probably need to check the wiring / connections next.

besides your problem with the fuse, why do you need to check fuses?

Autolights are not working, nor is the intermittent wiper. New sensor fitted, still no luck. Button on the stalk doesn't seem to do anything

when the new sensor was fitted did you also fit the new jelly seal that sticks to the screen as with out this the sensor does not detect anything and they can not be reused so that could also be part of the problem if someone before you has removed the sensor and just put it back on using the old seal. if the auto wipers detect a fault it normally displays it on the dash. when you put your wiper stalk in the intermittant position what does it do as if the auto wipe is at fault they will do nothing. in the owners hand book it tells you how to turn on and off the auto lights, might be worth reading up on it and double check if it's turned on or off

Tried everything mate. Its got the new jelly bit and but the old sensor (I have tried a replacement sensor too).

The owners manual only tells you about pressint the 'auto' button on the stalk and I've tried all that - but that button doesn't seem to respond at all (nothing on the display). However, with the wipers, when I put the on the first setting (for autowipe) it does wipe only once.

and when it wipes only once, if you put water on the top of the window it doesnt move?

for the auto lights, if their're turn off you should get always that message on the dash, something like "Auto lights Off". Mine does it because i dont like to have autolights on and the message shows everytime i start the car.

Nope, water on the screen does nothing. Increasing the wiper 'speed' one notch at a time also causes a single wipe, but decreasing it doesn't. Oly message on dash is "No Messages" or something like that.

have you checked all the wiring. ifi remember it's a flat ribbon and runs up into the roof liner and comes down the passenger side windscreen pillar and behind the glove box.
worth checking it's plugged in behind glove box incase someone has removed it to stop a warning message appearing

all points to the sensor badly installed or poor / no connection to the car of that sensor...i should follow the advise of seeking the wire until it connects to the UCH..

on the sensor/wiring you the 3 pins are
pin 1 supply 12v battery
pin 2 uch and wiper motor connection
pin 3 earth

checking pins 1 and 3 are straight forward
pin 2 ends up at the location below

uch
PE2 connector (Black) track 1
hope that can be of help
