Starter motor cost?

Postby CrumpetMonster » Mon Jul 11, 2011 8:45 am

Hi all,

Been having a few issues with the car, namely, starting the thing! Had to call the AA out at the weekend to get moving and inspection of the battery and charging currents suggest they are working fine which leaves the starter motor as the most likely problem.

So I don't cry in front of the burly mechanics when they hand over the quote, can someone prepare me and give me a rough estimate for parts and labour for changing the starter motor please?

Thanks :pc

hy there,

genuine parts, around €250 + VAT, + Labor. The labor part should be something around 1,5h-2h. there is the possibility to make an exchange for a refurbished unit, 170+VAT. This prices are for Portugal, i dont know if theire the same in UK.

you can also go for the Valeo, Bosch, etc etc units, their good, in fact i suppose Valeo is the same unit that equips the meganes, the dealer for doing the part of putting the unit inside a Renault paper box keeps something like €100 for him :). you can save a few pounds here

cheers

Cheers for the replies folks

I wish I re-checked this thread yesterday evening and gone down the reconditioned route, however the car wouldn't start this morning and so it's had to go into a non-Renault dealer. Cost is £140 parts & labour, the job being quoted as taking one hour ( I guess the Brits work faster than the Portugese ;-) :grin ). Fairly happy with that price in a morbid way as was expecting around the £250 - £300 mark.

Cheers for the replies; as always, much appreciated :rock
