Fellow owner,
Felt I'd achieved the ambition of never darkening your doors again (this website). Got rid of the 2003/1.6 Hatch in May 2010 - it had the dephaser at 26 k miles/40 months,window regulators/etc.
But also had 2006 Cab - which had been faultless (18 k miles) up until last Friday. Routine service now notes the dephaser has gone - but there are no symptoms !!
Will try a second opinion - as I though this problem was solved in later cars
