This is unreal.

I have had my car just 2 weeks.
And surprise one went last night and believe it or not i actually had 4 spare ready to use as i have heard the tails on the mark 1 megane ( with 2 mk1 coupe's in my family ) i had them as a back up for the mk1's but had to replace one on my mk2 coupe last night.
Thats with 15000 on the clock.

Booklet is a joke as per.

But got my air deflectors on last night which softened the blow a bit.

What year is your megane? By coupe I assume you're refering to the pre 2002 megane.

I have a 04 plate which is a 3door.

And the others i refer to are a Y (with 32000 on the clock) and a 51 plate both mk1 model coupes.

Apparently its a very very common thing & due to my experience and others this problem doesnt seem to be going away any time soon.

Ok thanks for clearing that up. Apart from the coil failing are you relatively happy with your megane?

RENAULT ASSISTANCE??? I phone, explaining that the car's got a misfire, needs new injection coil(s) and they send out an AA man with no coils, who can only offer to tow me to the nearest dealer who is closed at that time of night!

Next day, another call, different operator - "sorry madam, we don't fit coils at the roadside, specialist job, must go to your dealer".

This morning, third call specifically requesting a tow truck to take me to my dealer...guess what, a man in a van with injection coils turns up and fits the coil at the roadside. Yippie!

I am now able to drive to the dealer for my 18,000 mile service....watch this space.

Yip bad news it might be the first time but wont be the last time one goes as second coil failed on my meg on Saturday night thats about 40 miles after the first one went (dfferent coil).

And by no means is it a specialist job its a 2 minute swap.

Toxic Light Warning

Postby philthornton » Sat Dec 24, 2005 11:36 pm

This light came on tonight of all nights while out and about getting last minute xmas shopping, looked on this forum and found out what the problem is and how to get it sorted, rang the AA at 7.45pm, car was fixed and I was back out by 9.15pm. An excellent service from the AA, and this also proves what a valuable asset to Megane owners this web site is. Couldn't of coped without my car over the holidays......

Someone needs to light a fire under these people.

Perhaps next year we can get more pro-active and do something about it. After all we've got quite a lot of information between us and then you can always spend a little time reading the New Megane Problems & Faults thread on Parker's!

Hi - first post on the forum, was searching google and found this!!

My light started flashing at the weekend and has happened on three seperate occasions (each when the car was stationary). Oddly, once I picked up speed the flashing stopped.

Hadn't got round to doing anything about it until this morning and now I am panicking as people here are saying dont drive it - eek!

How damaging can it be? I have a 2.0T CC which I need to get home. Also, since the symptons sound a little different to others, is this likely to be the same problem with the ignition coils?

gilly you have paid for a warranty and you have a dealer :? . How old is this car and how long have you had it?

Half the problems with new Renaults is because people seem to be terrified of leaning very heavily on their dealers :x . If they did dealers would lean on Renault UK etc., etc..

My guess is you'd make more fuss if you bought a hairdryer and it didn't work properly after a bit. What would you do about that  ?

It's a sort of reverse psychology. The more money something has cost , the less people seem to want to do about it  !

What did the dealer have to say about the first three occasions when the light flashed :?:

The car is just 8 months old, I have had it for 4 months now. The 3 occasions were all over the weekend.

I contact Renault and they said it was most likely the coils, but couldn't do anything till Thursday! I asked if it was ok to drive in the mean time to which they said - "yeah, should be ok...." - didn't exactly inspire confidence!

I will keep it off the road till Thursday and wait and see..... :?

If there is a problem with the coils driving the car won't help the life of the catalyst one little bit!
