Hi,
I've checked my oil today and it's a lottle low. (Sometimes the reading on the dashboord shows full, sometimes theres a couple of squares missing - is it not very accurate).
Anyway, I'm not sure which oil I should be getting. The care is an 08 plate 1.5dci 86. I think I need 5w40 or 10w40 but not sure which?
Also, the car was last services in Feb at 48000 and i've done another 6,000 since. Is it quite normal for the 1.5d to go through a bit of oil between services?
Cheers
Rob

I'd recommend 5w/40 fully synthetic.
I used Fuchs Titan Supersyn at last change.
Also check the oil you choose meets Renault standard RN0710.

Mine doesn't use any oil between services (but it's only done 30k and it only does 6k a year). Just monitor the useage regularly and go off the dipstick rather than the dashboard to check the level.

Search
https://www.opieoils.co.uk/
for examples of RN0710 or MB229.5 (equivalent Merc spec).
Renault issued its RN specs after many cases of engine failures attributed to oil. I use Mobil 1 0w40 (MB229.5), which is £24+VAT 5L from Costco.

Thanks for the replies.
I'll go with 5w40. Will it cause any problems mixing oil types - not sure if the garage used 10w40 or 5w40 on the last service?
Cheers

Re: Which oil for 1.5dci 86 08 plate
Mixing is OK-ish. All oils are compatible, but do not expect a mix to work better than the best component. Therefore, changing between the types of oil in servicing is acceptable, but mixing, say 50-50, for any reason is not recommended.
You keep discussing viscosities, i.e. 5w40 vs 10w40. Viscosity is just one of oil parameters. If you want to keep your engine healthy, start thinking specs, which include many parameters. Any oil of RN0710 or MB229.5 specification will be up to the job.
