Drivers air bag

Does anyone know how to remove the drivers air bag safely, without having to pay a dealer to de-energise the system?

I want to change the steering wheel on my 07 plate Dynamique, but have been quote £66.00 + vat to do the job.

I can do it myself if I can remove the air bag & refit it safely.

Any suggestions?

Les.

Disconnect the car battery and make yourself a cup of tea - 20 minutes should see you safe (de-energized).

When removed from the car, point it away from yourself, don't drop it, put it upright in a place not frequented by children.

Done mine, disconnect the battery at least half an hour prior to doing the job,
These is a small hole on the back if the steering wheel, find a blunt object such as a drill bit (blunt end) or similar to insert in the hole push hard, this unclips the airbag, then the airbag pulls towards yourself at the bottom and then slides upwards and hopefully off! :-)
