rattling dash

Postby darrenpaul » Mon Mar 21, 2011 8:50 pm

Hi,

I'm new to the site and posting and wondered if anyone has any experience of a rattling dashboard, it is not permanent, but when it starts it won't stop and is extremely annoying, even with the radio turned up! I have the Megane VVT 1.6 08 if that helps.

Thanks Eddie, I'll take a look, it appears to be coming from above the drivers side and the arch over the speedo, etc, just wondered if this was common or if it is problem, only had the car a fortnight!

I have just started to get the same rattling symptoms all of a sudden in my car, just out of the blue this week. Two in fact. Both annoying....

1. Somewhere over by the passenger side... under the dash!
2. Somewhere under the drivers side... under the dash!

Thing is they are so hard to pin point exactly where they're coming from and obviously you only hear them when driving and going over certain speeds and on certain rougher roads.

The thing that annoys me the most, and in particular with the case of darrenpaul and myself, our cars are relatively young (3 Years and 3 1/2 Years old) and these rattles have already started!?? I owned an MG for 7 years from new before the Megane and it never made a single creak in all it's days. I'm sorry to say but I have to put this down to Renault's sub-standard plastic build quality of their interiors on the MkII Megane's! :no

mi9ne develops rattle on the twitter cover on the top of the dash, left side in my case. ive used some small rubber to stop the rattling...but ive got more to eliminate, the long lasting rear sound, an wreck sound. Its the rubber doors against the chassis. i dont know a good way to eliminate this one whiteout having the problem of the persons that uses that doors get dirty with oil or any other greasy thing i use to eliminate the friction sound...

cheers

Regarding the friction sound from the door rubber, auto glym and probably others do a rubber/silicone treatment, I use this and it softens up the rubber... Should stop the friction noise, let me know how you get on if you try it! :-)

There is a known issue with the dashboard rattle when cold. Solution is to spray silicone spray under the windshield. Use a straw, or you'll get a mess on the windshield and the dash.
Rattle can also come from the inside door handle (vibrating stops when you touch the door handle). Usually, the problem is poor fitting. Can be rectified by taking the door card off and putting everything where it should go.
If you have rattle under the glove box, it is usually the plastic "tingy" (clicks in/out into the dashboard when you take the glovebox in/out) from the glovebox not sitting in its place.

must say, had a 10yr old megane coupe before current car with no problems whatsoever, yet had this 6 weeks and the problems are gathering speed !!!

the dash does appear to be intermittant and probably a hot/cold thing so not not much can be done, but my ruddy drivers side window has now stopped working and boy although i wasn't before, as soon as i know it doesn't work I'm developing claustophopbia whilst driving!!!

I will be taking it back to get fixed, but the problem besides the problems is that the renault garage doesn't work weekends, meaning more time off work!! - and they have the cheek to charge insurance for a courtesy car! nothing courtesy there then!!!
