Strange headlight bulb problem

Hi,

My dipped headlights have been poor on my megane since i bought it in October. I thought i'd change the bulbs this weekend following the guides on here. However, when i tried removing the electrical connector from the back of the bulb, the bulb came with it. There was no clip holding the bulb in place.

I checked the bulb on the other side of the car and before i pulled the connector, i had a good feel for a clip and there was none on this side either.

I changed the bulbs, but i'm not convinced they are in correctly. They seem quite secure, but i'm not sure whats holding them in?

My car is an 08 1.5dci tech run 5 door. Does anyone else have a later model megane that has headlights with no clips? The bulbs are H7's by the way.

Thanks,

Rob

Phase 2 Meganes don't have clips. The bulb is held in place differently, the metal housing is a fact what keeps bulb in place. Everything is OK if both of your dipped beams point at the same height, the pattern on the wall should look like this: _/ _/ (or the other way round \_ \_ , because llights in UK point to the left side). If your lights don't show this pattern, try turning the bulb in its place until it fits inside the housing, otherwise it will point either to the skies or right in front of your bumper.

Thanks very much for the reply.

I'll double check they are lined up properly.

If they are still dim after that, is there anything else that could be causing them to be poor - sometimes on unlit roads, I need to use the fogs or main beam to see where i'm going.

Cheers

Rob

Try using some more powerful Osram bulbs. And double check that they are 12V. :) A friend of mine used 24V and said: I don't get why these bulbs aren't working properly.

check the bulbs are in the right way for sure..using a wall or garage etc.. just park a few feet away and make sure the bulb/light pattern is actually pointing the right way..
I took mine to halfrauds as I was scared to do them myself..but since then the lights were really poor..
decided to have a go myself last week and it was relatively easy to do.. but the halfrauds muppets had put them in wrong meaning the light was shining at the bumper and not on the road..
the sidelights however are a whole different challenge.. managed the driver side but passenger side is not easy...

Had a similar problem on mine it turned out that the Renault dealer who had replaced them had put the side light bulbs in the headlamps and the headlamp bulbs in the sidelights!!!! Another dealer (friendly one) changed them around for me and the difference was amazing.
