Cannot connect to EOBD

Postby quaker@eircom.net » Wed Jan 26, 2011 10:51 pm

I cannot log onto the ECU of my Megane 1.5dci 2005 via the EOBD connector. I have plugged into the connector with a 16 pin OBD2 plug+ELM327 module +USB cable+laptop running ScanMaster. The Ignition is "on" and the feedback from the software is that "OBD2 protocols not detected". On looking at the populated pins on the car's socket..it shows wires on pins 1,4,5,6,7,9,14 and 16. I have successfully logged onto the ECU of a Fiat Seicento with the same cables/ELM327 module and laptop.
What could the problem be? Is my car OBD2 compliant?

The ELM 327 should connect to the car as a fault code reader. But that it I believe.

If you need to change setting reset airbags ect you need a Renault Clip. The offical diagnostic tool.

This should be irrelevant if you have the ELM working on another car, but still:

Silver 08 plate 5dr 1.5dci Dynamique 106 Tech Run (re-mapped)

Red 03 plate 5dr 1.9 Dynamique dci120

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

plug the elmscan into the odb2 socket , put the card key in, then just hold the start button till you here everything clicking (coming on) dash etc and it should work no need to start the car. Make sure you goto the settings and to - connect to odb2.

Thanks kornnut106.......That was my problem..I put in the keycard and held the start button down for approx 6 seconds and this is the equivalent of turning the ignition "on". I can now see a stored trouble code. "P0670..Glow Plug Module Control Circuit". I did not clear this yet. What should one check at this stage?
