Problem with misfiring engine!!

Postby m1439003 » Tue Jan 04, 2011 8:19 pm

Hi All,

I own a Renault Megane 2004 16V 1.6 Dynamique. Over the last few months I have had a problem when starting the car. The engine seems to misfire (sounds = struggling/coughing/misfiring) when I start the car up in the morning. It takes at least 3 attempts for the engine to start but once it does the car runs well UNTIL the engine is turned off for a while and then the problem returns.

From reading other forums I have done the following: Replaced all ignition coils, all spark plugs and cleaned the TDC (top dead centre). Each of these made the car start fine for a while but then the problem returns.

Does anyone have any ideas of what to try next?

Thanks

Marty

What springs to mind is that when you have performed these fixes, you have moved or disconnected wiring. Possibly it could be as simple as a loose connection or chafed cabling. Try starting the car and then attempt to make it misfire by wiggling things under the bonnet.

Did you get any fault codes? Does it sound very rough (like a diesel) when you first start it?

Red 03 plate 5dr 1.9 Dynamique dci120

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

Hi Dave. No fault codes present. What the mechanic/electrical engineer did find tonight is that the inlet air temperature sensor is constantly reading 33oC even when the temp outside is 1oC. I have been told to replace this? Any idea on this or where to get one? Have search hi and low on the internet and cannot find any

Hi

Was there any further news on this problem? We have exactly the same problem with the same engine. Any further pointers would be really appreciated.

Ian
