Injection fault on my 1.9DCI

First...Happy New Year :D

Unfortunately, my car died on me last night - coming home from an evening night out :( Had to be tolled home. Started off fine and when approached a mini roundabout, the car died with both " STOP " and " Injection Fault " lights showing. Tried starting the car again as i was on the roundabout, but the car failed to come back to life.
So, called the AA and out he came. Checked the injections with a little gadget which flashes which I don't know what that proves, and straight away...he said that the Crank shaft sensor is most likely the problem. However, i did noticed in the past couple of weeks that starting the car wasn't so sharp as it use to be as it took a few turns before the engine came to life - as before, it used to start pretty much straight away after a push of the button.

Could there be any other possibilities that may result this on going problem or is the Crank shaft sensor is most likey culprit!

Any feedback and suggestions will be much appreicated

That sensor gets much grief. Fortunately its cheap and easy to replace. Get proper codes read with a diagnostic machine to make sure. ELM327 (ebay) or any garage for £30 (or free if they do the replacement I should imagine).

Yes, this sensor has given me much grief - especially on New Year's day. What a great start!! :lol:
However, with owning the car for the past four years, this is the first time that my car has died on me, so I can't really complain. Wear and tear I suppose like us lol.

Unfortunately, I drained my battery down trying to restart it so i will be needing to charge that. Or should I purchase a new one as the current one is quite old. If so, which brand do you recommend?
As for ELM327 which I be more than happy to get, but I do not own a laptop - only desktop. And finally, if the the Crankshaft sensor is the culprit ( fingers cross ) what is the best way of replacing it as I have a Haynes Manual and it's stated that to access it, I need to remove battery, then the battery tray and the ECU.

Sorry for these questions as I get more honest suggestions/answers on this forum than any of my local garages.

One quick question: What is the best method of gaining access to the Crankshaft sensor - by under the car or with what I mentioned above by removing the battery & tray stated by Haynes.

Removing the battery and tray is simple - socket set and long extension bar if I remember correctly.

Get a Bosch battery: www.boschbatteries.co.uk They are expensive but good. I got this one: S5008 / 096 BOSCH SILVER PLUS Car Battery 12V 77Ah

It's got a higher Ah rating than the standard and (despite the recommendations on the website) does physically fit with ease. Charge it to 12.5V before installation. Keep the old one topped up as a spare.

Received some bad news this morning regarding the on going problem with my car as stated in my first post. It's not the Crank Shaft sensor as originally first thought. Turns out that the high pressure fuel pump has failed :-(

Not a good start of the new year!

I'm just wondering are you able to clear the codes with that ELM327 of ebay? If ne one has bought one ?? I've got the same problem with the injection fault but my car runs perfectly fine and have never had any issues bar I can't seem to get the particle light to go off swell even tho drove down the motor for a long time to try clean it
