Another Injection Fault

Has anybody got any ideas about this one?
Have a 2004 1.5 DCi was travelling along at around 70mph then had 'Injection Fault' come up on the display and the STOP light pulled over engine still running message disappeared along with 'STOP' light, pulled away again fault and light came one almost straight away, pulled in and car stopped running and would not restart.
AA man did some checks and said he was 99% certain it was the crank shaft sensor (plugged his computer into the machine and it was not showing any fault codes), got the car to a garage and mechanic agreed with the diagnosis (he also did not have any fault codes when plugging in the computer)and changed the sensor (and the battery that was well past its sell buy date!) collected the car which had been tested got 1 mile down the road and had exactly the same fault and car again would not restart
The car is now obviously back in the garage awaiting another look by the mechanic in the morning, but would be interested if you lot out there had any ideas.
Thanks

hy there,
Ive had those problems too. You have several malfunction options: Injectors, fuel filter clogged, fuel lines with some leak, HP pump, pressure regulator, rail pressure sensor.
For start you can use a OBD machine and post your results here, we will be able to know where to start from. For now can you give your car mileage?
Note: ive managed to repair it, in my case were the HP pump and ive tested all the other components, i can give you some help doing it also until you find your problem.
cheers

Thanks for the info.
The mileage is 69K, the mechanic is looking at it again today (not looked since Friday due to New Year) will see what he comes up with and go from there. I will pass on your suggestions if he draws a blank today.
Might be a stupid question but what is an OBD machine? If it is the machine that checks the fault codes, 3 different machines have been connected and all have detailed no fault codes.

Yes, its a machine to read fault codes. None of them give you errors? Strange...that kind of warnings should at least memorize them on the ECU.

Update: The mechanic is still hunting!!
The new sensor has been electrically tested and is servicable but the injectors are still not recieving a signal, he is going to do a bit more investigating but if that comes to nothing he is looking at getting the ECU checked out.
If the injectors are not getting a signal I guess that we can rule out the fuel system?

Hy there,
The injectors doesn't receive a signal? But your car can idle without a problem? This two conditions are not compatible, that's not possible...

Prehaps I haven't described it properly.
The car started and ran after the initial change of sensor, when I left the garage with it started fine and I drove off, after a mile the fault came up on the display again, i pulled over the engine ran for a few seconds (and appeared to be running normally, no strange sounds or 'sputtering') then stopped. The car would then not re-start, it will turn over but will not 'fire'.

Ok, this is a different situation then. The injector harness will only receive signal if the ECU sends it. In order to send an accurate and coherent signal it must receive multiple informations from several sensors. I can think in a few sensors that MUST be working properly in order to the ECU send that signal to the injectors, otherwise it will not send nothing. Check the harness between the sensor and the ECU, its worth a try before going to the ECU test...
Cheers

Update:
The ECU has had to be sent off for check/repair. Not going to get the car back until at least Wednesday. Grrrr

i think the problem is not the ECU...but let's see.

Update:
A full 60 days after the thing broke down, I am now faced with a bill of £2000 +VAT for almost a complete new fuel system!!!
The garage and chap I brought the car from think that the fuel had been contaminated due to evidence of metal fragments in the filter, this is despite prior to this the garage saying that the pump was kicking out 3 times the pressure that it should. I suggested that it may be metal from the pump disintergrating itself.
I have persued avenues and even talked to the Citizens Advice, I have managed to get the trader to agree to half the cost of the current bill so its somthing.
Needless to say I am in a crap place now after this £3000 will have been spent on repairs to a car that I brought for £3400 in November
Cheers Renault for teasing me in with a car that is great to look at, has all the bells and whistles and is great to drive.......................but is about as much use as a chocolate fire guard.

maybe your car burned some gasoline instead of diesel, thats enough to produce that kind of problem...
the price for a complete system is indeed that but if the car did that suddenly its a bit strange, i can only say that the primary fault was on the HP pump, the only part on the system that can liberate metal debris into the system, if that happen suddenly its because something very wrong occurred inside it.
good luck
